WHY ACTIVATED CARBON FILTERS CLOG IN THE COLD - AND WHAT YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT
Some people probably know it - you're on the balcony, in the garden or out for a walk and you light a dowel. After a while the pulling becomes harder and a few pulls later you'll see a brown, sticky sauce running out of the filter. How can that be?
ACTIVATED CARBON FILTER CLOGGED - THE REASON: CONDENSATION
The combustion process of your dowel in the cold causes the air to condense and small drops of water are formed that mix with the pollutants deposited on the activated carbon. This creates the brown sauce, the sour cream. Just a few drops are enough to stick both the activated carbon and the holes at the outlet of the filter and thereby block the passage.
HOW CAN I PREVENT FILTERS FROM CLOGGING?
With conventional activated carbon filters, souring is difficult or impossible to avoid due to their design. What can help:
- In general, make sure not to store your filters in the cold.
- Roll a little shorter.
- Roll looser.
- Above all, use unscented tobacco!
WHY DON'T HYBRID FILTERS GET CLOGGED?
With our Hybrid Supreme Filter, the coating prevents the cold from reaching the activated carbon as quickly. In addition, a large part of the condensed moisture remains in the cellulose, where it is distributed evenly and does not even penetrate to the activated carbon to form the sour cream. At very low temperatures and for very long self-rolling, we cannot completely rule out clogging, but in general you are safe even in the cold with Hybrid Supreme filters.
